Hey...there
I faced this "VIRUS" myself recently.

Ctpmon.exe is a virus that loads when windows starts and sits on ur taskbar by giving u alerts that ur computer is infected..and some times show u the blue screen of death.

All the websites on the whole internet reffering about it, shows only good for nothing advices, and any antivirus softwares seldom provides u with any relief from it.

I found out that this virus is nothing but a NICE TRY by it's manufacturer to fool the infected computer into buying their anti viral spywares they sells. (something like Prevx1....a loser).

I doubt this 'cause the icon on the systemtray keeps u reminding u that ur computer is HIGHLY infected ......TOOOO much. (more then NORMAL)..Furthermore their icon is similiar like the windows security alert icon (but LESS standard then the MS one) and their BLUE SCREEN of DEATH is TOOOOOO scary. Moreover it's name is ctpmon.exe....a name very similiar to Ctfmon.exe which starts at windows startup ....to confuse U....)

Nothing seems to work from this world.
Then i tried "COURAGE by experiment).
Do it............

Download something like
CCleaner v1.34.407 from
http://www.ccleaner.com/
CCleaner won't help u tu remove the virus but it will help u in deleting the startup loading key of Ctpmon.exe afterward.

Now, boot up in the SAFE good old MSDOS mood and DELETE the Ctpmon.exe located in
C:\windows\system32\ctpmon.exe

U will also find and can view or delete their BLUE SCREEN of DEATH in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\secure32.html
indicating a VERY HIGH RISK infection....LOL

Now, use CCleaner to delete the Startup key of the "VIRUS"
And there u r.....

The Ctpmon virus DiSAPPEARED from ur computer for good.....
NICE TRY they TRIED tu SELL MI THEIR LOUSY SOFTWARE....LOL..... Next time ADVICE them tu use some mild words and better iCONS.........ha...ha...

It sometimes copy itself in ur download directory via DAP or such download softwares when u downloads CRACKS....or such things......The windows SEARCH engine will help u in locating all of them......(They don't know even how tu HIDE.....:-))

IM or mail mi @yahoo.co.in if u r confused regarding this...

That is a virus that is in your registry. I would suggest using system restore to solve the issue. If that doesnt work you can always reformat your hardrive. A more uncomplicated way of handling this would be to find the registry file manually and try to delete it. If the virus has a safe guard against manual delete then go to www.downloads.com They should have a program on their that can delete non-deleteable files. God Bless.....

Here's some detailed information on the CTPMON.EXE infection:

You need to turn off System Restore, download smitfraudfix here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/resources/link243.html
Reboot into Safe Mode and run smitfraudfix, then reboot back into normal mode and turn System Restore back on. Note: smitfraudfix will delete your desktop wallpaper, so you'll need to put it back afterwards.

You need to get rid of the original program, that loaded it onto your hard drive. For that you need antivirus software.
