What brands of soap, toothpaste, shampoo do you use? Many brands are made by Proctor and Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive, Dial, Clorox, etc. Check their web sites. You will find out the Proctor and Gamble has made enough money to increase their dividends each year for the past 50 years. If they continue to do that, and you reinvest the dividends into more shares, you might be able to live on that yearly payout without worrying about social security..

I would go with blue-chip companies but also take about 15% of my money and try to be agressive. Mutual funds are great and all, but individual stocks is where you will make the most money.

Since you are young, just start reading and following the market for now. If you get the itch to jump in the market, don't put all your eggs in one basket and just buy a few shares to see if this is the right investment vehicle for you. Buy low and sell high. Hold stocks for long-term.
