I think you don need the water at all. Just connect the lightbulb to the battery. First verify the voltage is the correct one.

How can you light a light bulb using water a light bulb and a battery?
I assume you are an elementary school student. If that is correct you should keep up the good work. Have more confidence in your own abilities.
