I don't think he wants it to be a "chore" for me, and I might feel that ways SOME of the time- but he's questioning my motives ALL of the time-

Guys don't like to feel that having sex is a chore for their wife/girlfriend. I think to "make love" both people have to equally want to. You said that you do it more to make him happy than for your pleasure, well maybe seeing you have pleasure makes him happy.
