Sure it is, but it might be immoral...Unless they offered you Direct Deposit for *free (*no fees, and you avoid the paper check fees), and you turned it down for whatever reason...
Is it legal for the company to charge you for your uniform for example? Yes. Employers may legally charge countless fees that you may find unsettling or unfair. But in this instance, if direct deposit was offered for free and you rejected it, then it's also fair.
I would urge you to reconsider the value of Direct Deposit, in this instance. And to consider the expense and hassle of paper checks that your employer would like to avoid, and may wish to pass the savings on to you. Once feature of the proletariat is that it seldom wishes to consider the viewpoint of the employer, and that lack of consideration sadly often serves to keep folks bound to the proletariat sector.
I'm sorry, I know this isn't what you want to hear. But you are free to seek employment elsewhere if you don't like the terms. That's why it's legal. If you had no choice, then everything would be different.
Again, sorry if this upset you or anyone else.

If they do offer direct deposit, they may be entitled to charge a handling fee for those that insist on the old style.
I had direct deposit for 30 years and cannot imagine trying to deal with paper checks. They are so obsolete.
Get a checking account with a major bank (nation wide) because they often have no fee checking if you have direct deposit.
It is the way of the future . . .

Having issues with the state of Michigan recently myself, I wouldn't doubt it. What a disgusting money hungry thing to do. I would contact the Better Business Bureau to be certain, but it sounds to me like typical Michigan.

No actually I don't believe it is, since they have an obligation and duty to pay you,
But they can require you have a direct deposit or make you pick the check up in person.

I've never heard of it. My employer simply requires direct deposit. The only way to get a paycheck is if it is your LAST check.

Legal?Yes.Cheap as hell and stupid? You bet.
They likely have an outside agency that handles their pay role and are passing the cost on to you.
