I have found that homemade lotion bars is the best. I have very dry skin. I moved from a high humidity area to a low one. My skin became very dry with big patches on my elbows and knees. Someone gave me a lotion bar and it cured it all the first time I used it. To make them, you use 1 oz. shea butter, 4 ozs, beeswax, and 3 oz's coconut oil. Heat in the microwave until liquid. Then add a sent......my favorite is Jasmine. Pour into molds (I use old crystal light containers and soap molds) Let them harden and they are ready to pop out. I rub them on heavily at night. You can also put vaseline on your skin at night and wrap it in saran wrap and it will help, but it is awkward and a pain in the neck and doesn't work as fast.

I took accutaine and it dried the bdjeezus out of my skin and found that lotions would not work on me either.
Things I turned to that I liked.
Neutrogena's Sesame oil...smells good, and you can use it right when you get out of the shower....or even in the shower.
Bath and body works has massage oils....I use them instead!
seriously, my skin is that dry, and sucks up the oil.
Or look for creams instead of lotions...
goodluck!
If its for your face. Use creams or oils. even vit.E oil or Jojoba, Almond oil which by the way you can use on your body too!

I had this problem when I was pregnant. I tried three different lotions and they all seemed to work. I started out with Eucerin but my skin was too sensitive from being pregnant. Then I tried Aquaphor and that worked just as well, but again I was too sensitive. I finally ended up just using Aveeno since it was the only one that I could handle being pregnant.

first apply a baby oil to your dry skin area in the tub , then rinse off. After getting out, dry off, then follow that with plain old baby lotion, it works in combination.

Taking care of very dry skin starts immediately after you shower/bathe. Pat yourself dry and apply a good moisturizer, like Aveeno, then top the really dry spots (elbows, feet, hands) with vasiline. By doing this immediately after your bath, you "lock in" the moisture. It's good to use a humidifier during cold weather and keep yourself well hydrated to plump up your skin. Hope this helps you as well as it helps me. Godloveya.
