I like my Springfield Armory XD tactical .45 ACP. Next up is a Remington model 1187, 12 ga. simi-auto shotgun with a 20" bbl.(pro ported by magnaport arms) with an extended magazine, side saddle, ghost ring sights, and a synthetic pistol grip butt stock and forearm topped off with a teflon finish.

A short barrel shot gun is probably the best defensive weapon for a house. If you don't hit the intruder, you will scare them good... If you do hit, they will know it even if they have on body armor.
