Elphaba and Fiyero hook up, Fiyero is taken away by flying monkeys, she does a spell to save him, which turns him into the scarecrow. They show the scene where Dorothy throws water on her and she "melts" behind a scrim, then when everyone clears out, Fiyero comes back and Elphaba pops out from a trapdoor, alive and well, and the two head off into the sunset. If you pay attention, you will see water doesn't make her melt, in the scene where they save the lion, they are standing in the rain.
