My friend and I have been arguing about this and I feel that Prince is a better artist than Michael Jackson.
He claims that Michael is the reason Prince's videos were even shown on MTV because MJ opened the door for black artists on TV.
Michael Jackson may have sold 50 million records but his talent cannot compare to those of Prince. Prince is a better artist overall.
He plays countless instruments, he sings and dances and he writes his own music as well as music for other artists and movie soundtracks.
Prince is the type of artist that all musicians should aspire to be.
He's different, unique, and reinvents himself everytime.

I would say that Prince is the more talented musician and Jackson is the more effective entertainer. Prince plays multiple instruments and sings (on some of his tracks he plays ALL of the instruments) . He also has more vocal range and dexterity than Jackson. He can cross genres better than jackson can. He can do pop R&B, Rock, Funk. Sure Jackson did the song Dirty Diana but i don't think anyone would argue that he is more proficient than Prince at Rock music. On the other hand, jackson is the king of the storytelling music video. He is able to fuse the mediums of music and "cinema" in a unique way. Into this he also adds stunning dance choreography. This proved a more attractive combination than music alone in the 80's. Thus I conclude that Prince is the better musicain and Jackson is the greater entertainer.

Michael Jackson is a much better artist, he has more talent in everything! Michael did open the doors for black artists on MTV! Michael Jackson plays instruments too and he sings and dances a lot better than Prince and he also writes most of his own music and lyrics! Michael Jackson wins hands down!! Michael is THE KING OF POP!!

Well, Prince is certainly still coming out with a lot more music than MJ recently. But I think that Michael Jackson's music in the 80s was a lot better than Prince's. 'Billie Jean' vs. '1999'? Sorry but Billie Jean is one of the greatest songs of all time. Being a performer myself, I think that Michael Jackson is a better all around entertainer, but unfortunately he started focusing on his face more than his music.

to date MJ has sold 104 million albums of thriller, second is 42 million by ACDC

Correction : 750 million copies(MJ) ,check wikipedia or other sources.
anyway, i think MJ i far more better since he sold so much, and his Music videos are much better ,if you watch them you'll see.
MJ also plays Guitar and Piano and he's a vocalist to and he plays background Music too. he also writes many of his own lyrics(at least half of them). he also directs some of his own music videos.
also he have had more than 350 concerts which many of them were sold out(full stadium).
also many artists today claim to have been inspired by Michael Jackson(Beyonce-Timberlake-Janet Jackson-Usher and ....)
also he has the most sold albums(Thriller-Bad-Dangerous) also History is the most selling double-cd album, Blood on the dance floor is the most sold remix album(or maybe second, don't remember exactly).
but everyone have their own style.

Michael is the king of pop! Prince is just a... prince. Prince has some good songs too, but no one can compare to Michael.

I like Prince better, but Michael Jackson is a really good dancer. He's a bit weird now though. Prince has great music and good to listen to.
