Philosophically speaking there is apparently no limit to your self absorption or negativism.
As I always say "If you want to be a martyr then you have to make a sacrifice."

You are on the right path. The main thing you need to cultivate at this time is patience. You need mental discipline and you are well on your way to achieving it. You mentioned your friend. You must be very careful with friends. They will unconsciously and less often time consciously try to sabotage your efforts. They will say the right words to get your vanity and anger going. One of the first steps is to stop being angry with people. People do what it is ion their nature to do. Do not take it person for when you do that you only hurt yourself. Next you should really pay attention to what your friends and family are saying. Do you hear twinges of negativity coming from them? It is usually very subtle, you have to listen closely. Your acquaintances will plant seeds of doubt in your mind. Now that you have been told this, I am willing to bet you will start to see the sources of your negative thoughts and I am also willing to bet it is a combination of family and friends.

Make a list of the things you absolutely love, that make you happy, and things places and people that you would not want to live without. Put that list on your refrigerator and memorize it. Every time you catch yourself being negative, replace that action/thought with a positive one. Just call it a type of meditation and don't over-brain it.

Take away all the things that are making you think negative out of the picture. It's not you believe me. There is no such things as negative people with negative minds. They only tend to be miserable because of the scenario, atmosphere or the people they are dealing with. Simple as this.

You simply have to replace the negative thoughts with positive ones. You have to catch your thoughts and change them as they happen. You will be surprised at just how many negative thoughts there are and how often they happen. You will, through perseverance, successfully do this. Persevere. Fake it till you make it. It really is as simple as that. Good luck.

You're on the path to optimism...!you're acknowledging you're pessimism and I think we can start from that...spending time with your friends, family, and loved ones can be enough to make you happy..It's difficult fighting this battle when you're alone...try to look at people in the face...and if they look back at you...maybe you can say smile sweetly to them...a good friendship starts from that...along with conversation..you see, simply talking with someone can give you that feeling of importance in your life..and YOU WILL be important to others simply because of that..
