Minimum wage laws price people out of jobs. If you have a grass cutting company and you can afford ten minimum wage workers, what will you do if the minimum wage is doubled? You will layoff 5 people. There is also a moral argument to the minimum wage. If I am willing to pay John $5/hour to water the plants around my house twice a week, and John is willing to accept that, then why should the government be allowed to interfere with our voluntary agreement?

Both Thomas Sowell and and Walter Williams have written excellent columns on how ridiculous the minimum wage laws are. You can find them at www.townhall.com/columnists.
