Danny Manning, no question about it.

#1 draft pick overall (Jordan wasn't)

2 time all star

He could dunk (or at least, he could in college LOL).

Won an NCAA championship in college, just like Jordan.

What more do you want?

Once hit a 50 foot shot to win a game, after an opponent had tied the score with a half court shot against Manning's team. Talk about clutch!!!

Why Manning wasn't a top 50 player, I'll never know...that was the greatest injustice ever perpetrated upon the American people!

Although it does sound like that Russell fellow has more rings than he has fingers.

"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty six times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life". - Michael Jordan (talk about clutch!) This was actually said during his career. He actually ended up missing more than 12,000 shots altogether, plus over 50 game winning misses. And, he ended up losing a lot more than 300 games.

OMG, the 1985 IBM award?!!?!? That's AWESOME... that year, Michael led the Bulls to a 38-44 record, good enough for third place in the Central Division... the Bulls lost in the FIRST ROUND of the playoffs!! LOL Great job, Michael! You sure were "dominate" (sic) that year!! That's ANOTHER thing Michael has done that Russell never did... lead his team to a LOSING record! LOL

Got another stat for you... it took Michael five years before his career won-lost record reached .500. (After his first 5 years, the Bulls' record was 205-205). It took Michael NINE years before his career winning pct reached .600.

Russell was a .600 (.611) player after his rookie year, reached a career W/L pct of .700 after 4 years, and never dropped below .700 again (in career winning pct). His final career W/L pct in the regular season was .705. Jordan's was .628 (although it was .653 when he retired in 1998).

Safe to say, no one else has ever been a .700 player in NBA history.

How's THAT for a stat? Wins and Losses! Not only can't MJ touch Russell's playoff success, he isn't close in the regular season either, IBM Awards notwithstanding.

Michael Jordan is the greatest because of his personal achievements 6 championships, 5 MVPs, 14x all star, 9x defensive player of the year.. basically MJ had the total package. He could score, defend, and most importantly, win games. plus after Bird and Magic, people looked for someone to take the torch and carry it, and Michael ran away with it with his universal appeal and marketability. MJ is not only an NBA star but a pop icon as well. that is why he is considered the greatest because just like Babe Ruth, his name will probably go down as the best regardless of time.

I was going to say Danny Manning, but I wasn't aware that Jordan had won the coveted IBM Award , TWICE!!

I can't think of any other player in NBA history that has achieved that milestone. I may have to check the record books to make sure you're correct. Do you have a link?

HEY, BACK OFF TWEETY.....Without Michael Jordan, Chicago would have only made it to 4th or 5th place that year. LOL

Do you think Danny Manning would have done any better?!?!?
