the first rainbow is caused by refraction (dispersion) followed by total internal reflection inside the raindrop. The second and subsequent 'bows' are caused by multiple internal reflection which reverses the colour sequence each time. World record is 23 stacked rainbows..at some waterfall.. I think

The secondary rainbow (the one above the primary bow) is caused by a double internal reflection inside the drops of water, so the colours are reflected with respect to the primary (singly reflected ) bow.

This is a complete guess, but the colors of the rainbow have to do with the visible light pattern being UV(not seen) ranging to the visible ones of ROYGBIV and ending at another not seen being Infared. My guess is that when you see one normal rainbow next to a reversed one, the first one causes color illusions to your sight when viewing the second one, causing the colors to seem reversed.

That is an interesting point. I never noticed that in my past rainbow viewing. I hope someone provides an answer.

It has something to do with the way light is refracted through water droplets. The dark band between the two rainbows is called 'Alexanders dark band'.

Yes + no.Colour experience depends on `Wavelenght, Purity + Intensity`.`HUE` i.e. Colour, Purity i.e. Saturation + Intensity i.e. brightness. It depends how visualise colours.
