Larry Gatlin said he was on his way to a meeting with his then current recording studio in Beverly Hills when he stopped behind a station wagon with Oklahoma tags and kids leaning out of every window gawking at the sites. His first thought was, "You're out of luck fella. Someone else out here has all the gold". So he pulled over, wrote down his thoughts and went on to the meeting. The people told him they were terminating his contract and advised him to find another line of work as they didn't see any future for him in the music industry. He said he didn't say a word, just ran back to his car and started writing.
"All The Gold In California" became just one of his hits which went to number one in Country Music. Pretty good for a guy who was told by Columbia Records he had no talent.

The song, "The Way"; (ya know "where were they going without ever knowing the way")...
Well the band who sang it wrote it after they saw the story of an old couple who'd left on a vacation without telling any of their family members they were leaving. They crashed into a ditch, the husband died instantly and the wife succumbed to the same fate two days later. No one knows where they were headed, but they weren't discovered until a few days after the crash.
After I saw the band talking about the story behind the song, I listen to it and it sounds kind of haunting in a way...I love the song, though!!

OK, here an interesting tidbit I know:
The song "Hey Jude" by The Beatles was written by Paul for John's son Julian and was called "Hey Jules". John was divorcing Julian's Mom at the time and Julian was very upset so Paul wrote this song for him. It was never to be released. Apparently the Beatles producer heard the song and thought it was great but not appealing to the masses as "Hey Jules" so John and Paul changed a few things here and there and voila, "Hey Jude" was born!

There's a song from "Down from The Mountain" called "John Law burned the Liquor Store Down". Has a funny story to it, nothing inspirational, just a fun Hillbilly song with good chords.
It's sang by Colin Linden. "Down from the Mountain" was an album based around the musical soundtrack to "O Brother, Where art Thou!"

Aerosmith Walk This Way
At the Hit factory in NY recording album, they had the lick worked out but not much else.
they toke a break and went to movies to see Young Frankenstein
the scene where Marty Feldman says "Walk this way", with that small cane he had (at the train station)
When they got back to the studio, they completed the song and thats where they got the title of it from
