I think its both. A tight beat is great but hot lyrics is even better. Just like Beyonce for example, she has some bangin beats but her lyrics are also hot so the song is all around good.

it SHOULD be a mix of the the music and lyrics, but most people lately just go for the beat and forget about the rest of it.

the words have to mean something for me to really luv it.
the beat HAS to go along with the words.
if not i really won't pay that much attention to the song.....PERIOD

i'm more inclined to appreciate a great melodic sense of movement to make a tune stick in my head, hence crappy songs with nice music get stuck there sometimes....lol
