I feel the amount of the tip depends on the quality of service and the amount of effert put into the service. My standard rule is 20%+, but if the service is that of undesirable I believe a person gets what they deserve. I am a contractor. If the quality of my workmanship is undesirable I dont get paid. The same applies to tipping.

I assume you mean tip the wait staff. In that case, it's generally considered polite to tip between 15% and 20%. Keep in mind that bad food isn't the fault of the wait or waitress. You should consider their service when deciding how much to tip.

Be generous!!! Waiters and waitresses work hard. I always overtip for good service. For average service I leave the usual 15%. The service would have to be really, really, bad for me to not leave a tip. Fortunately I don't think that has ever happened to me.

I believe the going rate at most restaurants is 20 percent of your bill.
The reason is cause the wait staff has to earn a living too and they work really hard to serve the food
