You should really specify your old and new mobo's so you can get an exact answer;

A few things it may be:

The new motherbard may not accept the total amount of ram.

The new mobo may accept mixed memory types, but will usually only accept older types on certain memory banks (your mobo manual should be able to tell you this.

Maybe the second memory bank on the new mobo is malfunctioning.

Are both the sticks of memory the same speed? Your old mobo may be more tolerant than the new one.

Best thing is to look at the new mobo manual - if you dont have this you can google for your new mobo model to go straight to the mobo manufacturing website which should either have the full spec of your mobo or allow you to download the mobo manual.

Hope this helps

Newer computers have the ability to use RAM in dual channel mode when two identical stick are installed.. if two mismatched sticks are installed this may be causing a problem. If you can go to the bios setup screen as soon as you boot up with two sticks in it. See if there are ram adjustments that you can make to get the memory to work.

youve got a memory mismatch....make sure the chips are from the same company, check the speed, voltage, pin numbers, etc.
if you switch the sticks you might be able to get away with it, at the risk of your computer crashing occasionally.
switching meaning putting stick 1 in slot 2 instead of 1 and vice versa

One of the ram cards may be incompatible. Try starting up with one ram card then take it out and use the other. If it starts with just one card in it, that is your problem. Let us know in comments.
