Well textbook companies have a lot of costs in order to produce a nice glossy textbook, and additional stuff like multimedia CDs and online support really jack up the price of a textbook.

If you're fed up with the costs, try www.textbookrevolution.org

This was incredibly cheap; most textbooks individually cost more than that new. Part of the problem is that the demand is limited (unless it is a basic textbook in a popular subject, there may only be a few hundred people who use it), and most textbooks are only valid for a couple of years before they are outdated.

Because they pretty much have a captive audience. I had a lame professor who wrote a lame book that cost me 72 bucks (it was a small book) and we had no choice but to buy it.

I used to find the best deals on half.com and by googling the ISBNs online.

BTW, my first semester in grad school, my books alone were $650! It's highway robbery.

you actually got a pretty good deal.
they would probably be 50 + each for new ones.
companies spend alot of money making the books I guess and lots of paper + ink. They have to pay for there printing presses, then pay for the writers/editors, photographs and all that crap. It's not cheap. They are big books anyways

Books are expensive now because of the Internet, and the fact that its a conspiracy.
Every teacher could put there book on-line, so you can print it out, and I even heard of one Government teacher sending his book to Kinko's, and all you had to pay was 20.00 for a 150.00 dollar book. And really no one buys books anymore. The book companies know you have to buy books in college, so all they have to do is tell the teachers that their book is the best, and then they charge you crack dealer prices. No one buys regular books anymore so they have to gain off the student in to keep doing the recreational, Barnes and nobles, borders type thing. I think the newspaper people are in it too.

Well that isn't that expensive since I know people who bought 1 textbook for like $250. If you consider that expensive maybe it is because the company wants to make more money since one of their stocks could've crashed or something like that.

You purchased ALL your books for $120.00, just wait until you get into your higher level classes......one of my books was 140.00 not including the required lab book and calculator....or lab coat....or safety goggles.....and so on and so on.......
