in sixth grade, being popular is really important... in seventh and eighth grade being popular also seems like a "necesity," but i PROMISE in highschool, it doesn't even matter. once you'll get older, you'll realize that, as you as you have friends, it doesn't matter whether you're popular or not.
but, my advice is to not try to become popular at all. some people are just born with that "it" (popularity) factor... some people are not. if you TRY to become popular, then people will think that you're a loser and a wannabe.
just enjoy your OWN friends. BELIEVE me, once you get to about age 14, popularity won't matter at all. you won't notice or CARE about anyone's social status... popularity is just a lame, elementary and middle school thing. be above the influence and don't fall under it's trap.

I'm in my mid twenties and you probably won't believe anything I say.
But, sometimes people we think are happy and carefree are really not. Inside they are sad and put up a front for others. They sacrifice themselves and their values to people will worship them.
My best advice- the biggest gift you can give yourself is to work on who you are. Develop your personality. Develop your values. Know who you are and love yourself. Then don't let anyone cross those values. I know so many people from college who look back over their dumb mistakes they wish they didn't make just b/c they wanted to be popular. Some will do anything, cut off their left arm just to be liked- is it worth it. If you give up everything but lose your very self.
People are attracted to confidence and people who know themselves. Learn to love yourself and develop your values- and more people will be attracted to you.
I've heard a quote- light yourself on fire and people will come from miles around to watch you burn. Develop your passions and be a leader to those around you......not a follower.

If you really want to be popular just be nice to everyone and they will say nice things about you which will most likely boost your popularity, I'm not popular so I am trying that.

Become more confident with yourself. Push yourself to the limits, train your mind to big yourself up.
My favourite mantra for myself is 'I'm happy, I'm confident, I'm a success.
Unless you are confident with yourself, no external acheivement will make you more confident over the long term.
Stick your chin up, shoulders back and smile. Challenge yourself to do new things, push yourself!
Also, spend time with the people who make you feel good more often. And find others worthy of being your friends.
Just live!!
