You've got to change your regional settings on your keyboard, go to control panel, regional and language options and make sure that the first drop down menu says English (United Kingdom) that'll put your keys back to where they should be.

Lol, I see. Dont worry. There are many ways this can happen. I will tell you one of the ways. A new keyboard layout may have been installed and configured. As im aware of, you cannot change your keyboard layout in control panel which means it must have been done by a ms-dos or a standalone. Is this laptop new? If so, when windows was installed on it, you had the option to choose a keyboard layout, that must be set to the correct layout in which country the laptop was purchased in. So, im not sure you can sort this. Try system restore ; start, all programs, accessories, system tools then system restore. Restore back to a day when your keyboard was working fine. You will not lose any files when restoring but you may lose programs which were installed from the restore time. Have a go at restoring, that should do the trick :D
Good luck"!
DolceVita : You have the U.S Keyboard installed. You cannot change it as im aware of meaning you will have to reinstall windows xp. When installing xp it has a option where you can change keyboard layout. Its usally set to U.S which swaps all the keys round and gets rid of the pound sign!!! Im guessing that you downloaded an un-genuine version of xp or you have had an un-genuine version installed. If you have always had this problem since you got it, then the dealer probably installed illegal xp and didnt change keyboard layout or they didnt change the layout anyway! You could just go, control panel, reginal and language options and make sure everything is united kingdom, if you cant set uk then install the uk packs :D
Alot to read but i hope it helps!!!!!!!
Good luck

i have the same problem. i am on my husbands laptop and the inverted commas (") and "at" symbol (@) have switched places. The pound sign has completely disappeared. I think it happened after the laptop caught a serious virus and had to be fixed professionally. I hope you get an answer cos I need to have a pound sign!!

You probably have a virus, get your virus checker up to date and do a scan, then check that your keyboard has not been set to another country ie English (US) instead of UK...
Good luck!

some computer touchpads are tormented by technique of temperature. If her computer is overheating at the same time as she places it on the mattress (if the delicate floor of the mattress blocks off the cooling vents), it would make the touchpad bypass haywire.
