The war in Iraq is high on everyone's list...what other topic besides the war should be discussed...

The environment, the economy, golbal warming, health care, immigration, domestic terrorism, the U.N., Africa-Europe-Asia, other... ?

Is the issue of Hurricane Katrina and the response time by F.E.M.A. during times of disaster, an important issue?

Basically, what I am asking....Other than the war in Iraq, which is very important, what other issue should the candidates seeking to become President of the United States, address?

Someone needs to do something about the national defecit of over 9 trillion dollars. Investors all around the world are no longer putting money into our country, but instead into Europe where the Euro is fairing much better than the dollar. The World Bank has also issued a no confidence declaration in that they do not feel we have the power to pay back our loans, so they are going to stop issuing savings bonds to the U.S.

In the future, we won't have the money to combat terrorism, aid in the fight against global warming, fight the war on drugs, help fund our education system, provide health care for anyone, or do anything else. All of those issues are so important, but we'll be unable to do anything that really matters if we're bankrupt.

Great question. I actually have 2 issues, the main one being healthcare in this country. Our current lack of affordable healthcare should be a priority, and it's always overlooked. I know many people who aren't able to afford health insurance, and in times when they are sick, it's sad when they have to forgo thier health because they can't afford to go to the doctor. Reforms on this issue are long overdue, so hopefully changes can be addressed.

Another issue would be border control/illegal immigration. I live in a border state and I see this everyday....people being deported back to Mexico, only to return again soon. Sure, Bush and Co. have upped the amount of border patrol agents, but increasing them isn't the answer. I am not saying pull an all out, "open season" on those breaking the law...but more reforms and harsher punishments should be made on illegals in this country. I am not a cold hearted person and I do feel for thier situations, but they have enjoyed a free ride in this country long enough.

We will not be able to maintain any advantage in any part of a global economy if our schools are not fixed... everything else follows this.

The "no child left behind" system of accountability put the schools in the lower income parts of town at greater risk... even if a school is doing very well, the testing happens at the beginning of the year and with the fact that these children are very mobile -- even good schools in low income neighborhoods -- can't hope to improve their test scores -- they are inheriting children from impoverished school systems in other parts of the country.

If we are to have real accountability, they should test on the improvement the school has made on individual student's learning after being in that school for a semester.

But I don't have much hope that the disenfranchised will ever have any real support from the federal government.

Let's begin taking care of home for a change

AFFORDABLE health care - preferably medical/health coverage as provided by other fully developed nations....our own system is a mockery leaving hundreds of thousands without adequate health care, medications and preventive care...because they cannot afford it. Not to mention the so-called Medicare reform is a joke! Part B can cost over $90 month and prescription coverage can cost a lot ....many seniors are surviving on social security and perhaps a small job [which then renders you ineligible for assistance]

Education - our schools are in terrible shape! - where there are pubic school districts that excel, why can we NOT replicate what is occuring there?

Immigration -- Without better enforcement of the border our national security is a joke.

Every other country on the planet has rules about immigration and punishments if you enter their country illegally. We are the only country with an daily in pouring of people that are totally unknown but because they are coming across the southern border -- They are seen as poor or underprivileged. No one can check or stop them because they just want a better life or so we are blindly told.

God protect us from those "disguised as underprivileged" as no one else seems cares.
And if you don't believe in God - may someone protect you because our government is too busy worrying about 2008.

Definitely & unfortunately the war in Iraqi has to be resolved once & for all but after that's done I would love to see issues of poverty, crime, & health care in our cities made a very high priority. There is too much emphasis put on space travel & that time & money could be used in our cities to help the poor. WE also need to focus on our children & the negativity that impacts their surroundings. If they don't have a decent parent or guardian to care for them, they are lost. They are the future.

Saving our open spaces - where no development has occured, such as our prairies, our mountains, our streams, lakes and rivers, the old growth forests and geological heritage, and yes, even swamps and just because the mallards and frogs like it there. If we don't protect our open spaces, we lose a lot more than a few national parks. We will lose our wilderness - which still lives in each one of us.

the concern of maximum magnitude that i prefer them to handle is the financial equipment. The financial equipment effects very nearly each little thing. So, if it incredibly is fixed so will wellness care and a number of different subject concerns.
