MIke,
the real answer is that if you have it done tomorrow, take your old certificate and show it BEFORE the MOT. New one will expire 27th Feb next year. You are allowed 1 month beforehand so can effectively have an MOT for 13 months.
Or: You can ring the MOT enquiry line on 0845 600 5977

Hi there,
Your car's MOT is due 27/02/07 and tomorrow's date is the 29/01/07. You are now within a 1 month period of your MOT expiring, so the MOT station can post date the cert, In fact because of the computerised MOT system, It will automatically adjust the expiry date(If it passes), so you will end up with an MOT cert valid for 13months!!
The only problem I have come across was with a private or cherished plate.
If you car is now coming up for its 1st MOT ie 3yrs of age, the cars details will already be held in the computers central database and any adjustments will happen automatically. With the MOT computerisation being older than 1yr too, your car will have been MOT'd last year and redgistered already. I am so sure, I will offer to pay for the MOT if they can't post date!!
I can be contacted via email easily.
Cheers

If the vehicle is presented for test within the calendar month prior to the date that the MOT is due, the test certificate will run from the date of the test to one year after the expiry date of the current certificate.
For example if the current certificate was due to expire on 1 April 2007, and the vehicle was presented on or after 2 March 2007, the certificate would run from the test date until 1 April 2008.
(That's the government's version, not a wild guess.)

You can have thee MOT done tomorrow ..but the garage will have to date it for tomorrow making your next years due on the 29th January 2008...it is illegal for them to post date an MOT.(anything could happen between now and the end of next month....fingers crossed for you that it doesn't)
You will have to pay for the MOT test whatever so it would be worth telling the garage doing the service the MOT is due next month and get them to check anything out that might need doing for the car to pass the MOT...then take it back there at the end of next month...
Really its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

You can get an MOT done whenever and it'll probably be a bit cheaper to do the service at the same time and you'll only have one trip to the garage.

I think you can have it done any time, but it'll only be valid for a year from the day you do it - so essentially you'll be robbing yourself of a month of MOT. Might still be worth it as it's often cheaper to get them both done at once.

you can have the m.o.t. done and if you take your recent m.o.t certificate in then the garage will be able to date your new one from the expiry date of the 1 you have now,i think its 28 days from the expiry date.it should say on the certificate.
