I had this a couple of months ago. I called the doctor and they told me to stay off of salt. Mine went away when I would sleep at night, then swell all over during the day again. That is a good sign. If it doesn't go away when you sleep, it can be serious. They didn't tell me what, just said it was. So they told me if it doesn't go away at night, to get in right away. But mine did and it stopped after a couple of weeks and I never had to go back in. So that's all I know for sure. Hope this helps.

You really need to see your doctor. Using salt makes some people retain water more than others, so it should be restricted. Kidney problems can cause this swelling and also congestive heart failure. When mine were swollen and shiny, very large, I wasn't worried, but people at work said I needed to see a doctor- who told me later she was afraid they'd burst(!) So I guess there is that danger. They were that swollen with kidney infection, also, though. There is a disease called elephantiasis that I think may include that symptom.

You need to get to the ER NOW! This is nothing to mess with. Leg swelling, like you describe, can be symptomatic of a life-threatening condition.

my dad had that where the legs got water and that is called ADEMA which means water in the legs. you need to get to a doctor as your body can fill up with water and you can drown in your own water. my dad was very lucky as I detected it and got him to the er room ASAP. that has to do with your heart so go to the er room now and don't wait.
