1.multiply one equation so one of the variables can cancel out the other. -2(1/8x + 1/4y = 5)
1/16x + 1/2y=7

2. = -1/4x - 1/2y = -10
1/16x + 1/2 =7

3. then add the two equations together
-1/4x - 1/2y = -10
+ + +
1/16x + 1/2y = 7

4. =
-3/16x = -3

5. -3 divided by -3/16

6. x = 16

7. plug the number in to find y
1/16(16) + 1/2y=7
1 + 1/2y = 7
-1 -1
1/2y = 6
y=12

8. x=16 y=12 or 16,12

Don't know of an addition method. The subtraction method I know might be similar.

1/8x + 1/4y = 5 ------(1)
1/16x + 1/2y = 7 ------(2)

1/4x + 1/2y = 10 ------(1) X 2
-1/16x - 1/2y = -7 -------(2) X -1
-----------------------
3/16x = 3

therefore x = 16

1/16 (16) + 1/2y = 7
1/2y = 6
y = 12

Multiply first equation by utilising -4 -12x +16y = -4 then upload the two EQUATIONS 12x - y = -11 15y = -15 divide the two factors by utilising 15 y = -a million substitute -a million for y to sparkling up for x 3x - 4(-a million) = a million 3x +4 = a million subtract 4 from the two factors 3x = -3 divide the two factors by utilising 3 x = -a million (-a million, -a million)
