In my opinion the meaning of life is rather simple, but we tend to make it complicated. I think we are here to learn lessons, grow, and become stronger people. We should take every bad thing that happens in life as a lesson, and grow from this.

Different faith systems attempt to make sense of it all. Many (New Age, Hinduism, Buddhism etc) do not suggest that there is any creator god outside the physical universe. Such spiritual forces as exist are seen as a part of the physical world, rather than outside it. Others faith communities focus on to a creator god, yet distant and unknowable.

Think about it. If it wasn't us, it would've been the tigers, or emus running the world. You ever seen an angry emu? Try an angry emu with a warehouse job that pays no benefits and a big anger management problem!

Apart from being a monty python film...the meaning of life is unknown to us other than it may mean something eventually to our ancestors.
In my own small way I contribute to this question by just attempting to out live people i don't like.

noone can figure that out until they are at the end of their time. that sounds bad, but they have time to sit and think about all their life and find a potential reason for why it happened.

I suggest you go to a valid Scientology Bookstore website (or ebay) and purchase the DVD 'An Introduction to Scientology'.
This DVD shows an interview where L. Ron Hubbard gives you his answer to this question - one that completely makes sense to me.
