I would assume he meant Braxton-Hicks. They are pratice contractions, therefore not "real" contractions.

Can be Braxton Hicks or can be dilation<4cm. I was sent home by the Doctor, cause my cervix was only 2cm dilated, and had to go back 8 hours later. Most hosptal won't admitt you until you're at least 3-4 cm dilated. You should count your contraction right now, and see if they're evenly space and persistant ( That's the sign for true labor)

I bet he meant they were braxton hicks. Is this your first baby? You can also be having "real" contractions that don't produce any results (ie no dilation). I had those with all of my children, starting around 4 months. They say Braxton Hicks don't hurt. I DISAGREE!

if the contractions are not regular (every 20 minutes or less), then they are not "real". Sure, your uterus contracts, but it is not actively trying to push the baby out. Monitor your contractions. If one lasts longer than 30 seconds to a minute, there could be a problem. When I was pregnant with my last one, I got spontaneous contractions that would last about 3 -5 minutes. I only got about 1 a day, but we later found out that it was a result of my placenta not producing amniotic fluid. My baby could have died. When I got the contractions, the baby's umbilical cord may have been compressed.

Sounds like Braxton Hicks. You will feel a lot more pain then the ones you are feeling now when you go into labor. Relax, it won't be much longer now. And congrats on little one.

I had contractions for more than 24 hours before they said i was actually in labour, you have to be 3 cm dilated before it is counted as active labour. Real contractions are regular and get stronger over a period of time. Good luck with the baby x

Braxton Hicks - feel like the start of labour, but when the real thing kicks in, you will recognise the difference!
Good luck with your new baby!
