I just bought a guinea pig about 4 months ago and it still acts like it is scared of me, I get her out of her cage often and everytime I try to get her out she acts as if she's scared to death, running, kicking etc. I cannot put her on the floor to let her run freely because she immediately bolts for the bed and hides... so my first question... why is she so timid and how can I tame her? Also she acts as if she is very unhappy at night... she squeaks as if something is wrong, many night I have woke up, gave her fresh food, fresh water, played with her and even cleaned her cage out and this seems to still not please her! Can someone please give me advice on making her happy also... I really like this pet and dont want to get rid of her but I'm running out of options! HELP please!

she is lonely, guinea pigs live in packs in the wild and are very sociable animals,if you get another baby now she is young enough, they will probably grumble at each other a bit but will settle down,we have had 30+ pigs now and like people all r different,we have some so tame they stand at the door when you open it but we have some that at3 still run when u try to pick them up,get her a friend and you will be amazed how much they will talk

Guinea pigs can take a LONG while to get used to their surroundings, my Morwen, who I have had for 5 months, still runs away from me! However I have seen an improvement, although it is very slow.
some good techniques are to sit by your piggy's cage on the floor, and just let her get used to you being there. once she starts to run about a bit then you can put your hand inside the cage with some veggies in (I find my piggies like broccoli) and she will start to warm to you. give her a few weeks of this, only handling her when necessary, and she should start to calm down.
as for the crying at night, she is in an unfamiliar place, and she is panicking, and calling out for a friend. if you were to get a younger female it should solve this, and maybe help her adapt to you too. if this really isn't an option, just have patience, and try putting lots of toys in her cage, like tubes for her to run through, or towels hung off the roof, like a tent.

How old is your pig? Was she raised by a family who has other pigs? We've had several pigs over the years and each has their own personality. We raised Cuddles and Jack both from a very young age. Cuddles sat and waited for you to pick him up whereas Jack ran around the cage. If you didn't "chase" Jack around the cage, he'd get huffy. To him it was a game. On the other hand, we got some pigs who were older and hadn't been handled as much as ours. They tried to avoid being picked up and chattered at us. If your pig is chattering at you, she's annoyed or afraid. It will take time to overcome this, but it is possible. At night, she may be afraid of noises (furnace fan, etc.). A nightlight might help. Also, some pigs are more nocturnal than others. If she is sleeping alot during the day, she will be up more at night. Take her toys away at night and return them in the morning so she won't be as bored during the day. Hope this helps.

I surely have 2 guinea pigs, the two are 3-4 yrs previous. as quickly as I had issues like that, purely stickthe foodstuff interior the cage and go away it on my own. at last the pig will eat it. yet, by utilising the way, i wouldnt reccommend provide it vegetables, with the aid of fact it provides guinea pigs diarea.....( :S ) provide them grass, or the conventional guinea pig puppy foodstuff..... (may well be got here across at puppy shops)

Piggers are prey animals that is probably why she runs from you when you try to pick her up in addition she may be lonely so if you can get her a friend that would be good make sure if you get another one to get a female or adopt a neutered male to prevent babies
you could go to cavies galore they have a forum you can join there are many pigger knowledgeable people on there

Don't worry at all i have had my guinea pig for 3 years and before that my aunt had her for like 2 years. they are easy to scare.

if she is scared don't put your hand in the cage
they bite hard you should just leave her alone and talk to her for a while longer.

rodents don't have very good eyesite so she may think that you are a preditor. just put your hand in the cage and let her come to you.
