So I downloaded a video files compressed into a "rar" file so I decompressed it to get the playable video file, the problem is that, while the audio works fine the video is hardly working, with green squares and a very slow framerate, is there a way to make it so that the file is easier for the computer to use, could I extract the file even more to make it easier for the computer to understand?

I recently encountered the same problem. I download video files compressed into rar format daily ... it has nothing to do with the decompression.

I successfully repaired the video file by using Nero to convert it to DVD format. Nero Vision repaired the file without any added user settings from me.

Download from :
http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero_7_UE_Full_Installer.php
(30 day trial .... well worth buying)

Use the "Smart Start" feature & choose "create your own DVD". This will start the Nero Vision program. Very user friendly ... just follow the prompts from there.

***** FYI .. the file was DivX AVI ... for which I have the codecs & successfully viewed others of the same format. This file was damaged & subequently repaired by Nero *****

Yeah, it definitely sounds like a codec problem. Just a shot in the dark.. but I've had that problem before, and it turned out that I just needed a good divx player. Windows Media player handles a lot of video formats well, but not divx. I just went to www.divx.com and downloaded their player and it played fine with that.

from the sound of it you're probably having a video codec problem. to really answer this I think we need more info about the file and the computer you're running. but in response to the .rar question, no you can't just extract it more.
