You know I'm a nurse, and these questions about discharges don't bother me at all. However, I can only imagine some other's with sensitive stomachs reading all these questions. Anyway, yes, it would be considered the first day of your menses. ~~~

The brown discharge could be the old lining of your uterus leaving for the new lining to form at each menstrual period.

I guess it all depends on how heavy your period was or how long it was because you can get implantation bleeding and you do get brown discharge with that. Have you taken a hpt?

I had the same situation every month, because I didn't know when to start counting my cycle I asked my Dr. and he said only start counting when the red blood starts to flow.

when I asked my doctor the same question I was told that you start when your period is fully there. Not just the brown spots.

No, you start counting with the red blood. The brown blood is old blood from your last cycle.

you could but brown discharge is old blood i would consult your doctor just to make sure everthing is ok in there and if you havent had a pap in a while you should get one your supposed to get them twice a year.
