I strongly feel that the whole of Britain, except for a few minority, clearly shows that bickering is rife and white people still treat indians and other nationals differently, by saying things like i cant understand you! eh? eh? what did u say? and can u repeat that? this is not funny anymore as i just lost my job because i have an accent and i dont speak like my white boss? it was my interview question? answer? you have a funny accent? and it ia a fact that many indians have to live through this thing everyday like i have to Why do people have to be judges? and let a person do a job instead of taking colour and skin and accent into account when judging anything? why dont people look at others and look for qualities in them instead of putting them down? why? Will indians have to please and impress the colonial masters forever?

To be fair accents have always been a thing in Britian because we have so many strong, regional accents. I'm Scottish living in South England and every day I have people mimicking my accent or asking me to repeat myself. I even had a customer on the phone asking to speak to someone who could "speak the Queen's English". The person I worked with sounded like Jade Goody and she had even more problems with her, but as long as she had an English accent.

When I go back home all my friends and family laugh at me and say I sound English! There are so many regional accents throughout Britian, it's not just foreign accents that prove hard to understand.

I'm sure any Brit who doesn't live where they grew up and who has a strong accent will agree with me.

Although I'm from the USA, I think I can answer your question for you. Being a black American I've always felt racism, either it be intentional or non-intentional. Although I've tried to fit in with the European (white) majority, I've come to realize that I will never be accepted by some racist people because of my skin color. I also will not be accepted because I show pride in my African heritage. I don't know much about the race relationships in the UK, but I know this for sure: Don't spend you entire life trying to please ignorant, racist, and jealous people. Life is too short. Find a place where you can be accepted for you. And even though Britain once controlled 3/4 of the world by force, remember, although they controlled your people physically, they could never control your peoples soul. Nothing of this earth, except God (or whatever you believe in) can control your soul. And look at what karma has done to the once "World Super Power" known as Britain!

If I couldnt understand someones accent I would tell them, whatever colour they were. When I went to America people couldnt understand my accent and I didnt get upset about it. When i was in Holland I had to repeat myself to be understood. If you have a different accent to the majority of people in the country where you are, people will comment on it. I dont give a s*** what colour people are, or what they believe, or how they dress. I wish people would just bloody well get on with life. At work I have to ask everyone what their 'ethnic' background is, to ensure equality apparently. And gues what? Its not ethnicity theyre interested in, the options are all to do with colour. What chance do we stand of treating people equally when the powers that be insist that we have to differentiate between people in the first place.

I have a problem with a lot of accents not only Indians, does this make me racist? My husband has worse problems as he is partially deaf, racist? No. Don't judge everyone the same, it's just not fair. If I ask someone to repeat what they have said it's because I don't want to misunderstand them, not because I want to make them feel inferior!!

Well your question is in pretty good English (apart from a couple of usages of text-speak), which is more than I can say for some of the replies, which are appalling. Eg neesy, fare = fair, whit= white of = have, hear=here.

if i don't understand what a Liverpudlian is saying is it ok for me to ask them to repeat themselves? what a load of none sense, if i can't understand what someone is saying should i just nod and say yes? if i can't understand someone i ask them to repeat it, it has nothing to do with where they are from its because i would like to hear their opinion
