I live in a smaller City in Wisconsin. It;s very rare to see anyone homeless. He was on the corner and had a sign that stated" homeless, hungary, anything would help"It was 10 degrees out that day. My husband and I stopped and got him a hotel room and gave him food. The problem is he was out there for 3 hours and we were only the 3rd car to stop. What ever happened to a little compassion

I've stopped and given homeless people food before. I was going to Walmart once and saw one, and when I was inside bought him some food. Another time, I was going to Burger King, so I bought him a meal. It makes you feel good inside, and I know a lot of people don't want to give out money because they think it might be spent on alcohol or drugs. I wish I had the money to provide a hotel room, but I don't right now. I have some old clothes I was gonna give to Goodwill, but I think I will hand them out next time I am downtown.

I can't give a helping hand to someone who is not smart enuf to ask the right person. All law enforcement at least in colorado will pay for a meal and give a ride out of the town. Besides what good will one day bring?? We all live in the same world and It sounds like this mas has made it this far ok? I mean if he has a sign then he must be able to write so he had obtained education in one form or another maybe he gave up? If I would see a homeless man im my small town I would stop for sure, but Only after a conversation would I feel the need to help or judge. In a city filled with cars that just drive buy, well thats how I would think he likes it. The one that stops will feel bad because no one else did, and he gets even more pitty than if everyone talked with him. He is playing a game weather in need of true help or just for a scam. Anyway im only 24 and trial and error on this I have not really experienced so listen to yourself! Peace

Asking for food, yes I would stop and help him out. People are frightened to interact with others....and there is also the fear that no good deed goes unpunished.

I actually stopped to pick up some girl walking in the cold (-10 with windchill) at 3am and she asked if I could take her to a gas station so she could call for a ride from a friend. When I pulled into the gas station I have a blade at my throat and she asks me to pull out my wallet. Needless to say, it wasn't a pleasant situation.

Would I do it again....giving someone a ride that appeared to need it....yes. I always hope for the best in people....and maybe the world would be a little better off if everyone did.

Most people don't stop because (i live in a bigger city) people around here, "pose" as homeless people. To get money for drugs and then rob you when you stop to help. (I know someone that this has happened to)
That is what churches, food banks and shelters are for. To have them get help for themselves, instead of standing in the street waiting for a handout.

I have stopped a couple of times to give McDonald's to homeless people. I know it's not the best food, but it fills their bellies for a few hours, anyway.

People are very cynical nowadays. It was nice of you to stop.

One point I will make is the guy should have been walking to homeless shelters or churches to seek help instead of waiting for it to come to him. As the saying goes, "If you pray to god for potatoes, you better have a hoe in your hand."
