I did live in the states for 2 years! one year in Chicago and one spent in phoenix.. with trips to almost every state!. I saw things which would hardly seem credible in such a enormously rich country! ..Honest the mind boggles at the food hand outs and charity give aways deprivation in some run down cities.. Also go off the intestates to backwaters vill and be prepared for a shock!.. America the country is quite two faced when viewed from the outside world, the obvious visible wealth laid out for all to see, hiding the deprivation of poor communities..
The opportunities are enormous for those who have a needed skill and are willing to work hard and assimilate into the way of life. Though you will need to work hard just in case you get sick! doctors bills can be frightening if you don't have adequate insurance.
In the end I came back to the UK, because I got home sick , and think on balance the UK is a better place to live. Some of American friends think the same because they now live over here.. In closing id tell anyone to go see for themselves, have fun enjoy and then come home and thank your lucky stars that you have the choice to leave.

I would if I was given a huge amount of money and a big house to live in. Otherwise no. One of the best things in life (for me at least) is going to castles, abbeys, palaces, ruins and other ancient monuments to see and learn about history, my ancestors and how people lived. In the USA a 200 year old building is classed as ancient - I can walk 20 mins from my house in the UK and see a 13th century castle. No contest.
If I did get a cool 5 million and a big house to live in in the USA I would choose North West state like Oregon to live in. Nice green area and lower crime rate. Beautiful open country and nice folk to make friends with. Plus I know a nice guy who lives in Oregon who could show me the best shops and restaurants.

Montauk, on Long Island, easy to get to New York City. I like a house facing the Atlantic Ocean and the rural aspect of Long Island, which is a different environment from Poplar, East London, UK, which I love as well, especially the old Victorian cobbled narrow streets, and love the back streets of Bankside on the South Bank of the river thames, so there u have it, overcrowded historical charm with modern industrial character, and the wide open sea with as much land as you wish to keep your boat yacht etc, obtaining this dream however is another story altogther. The location is far from the bustle of the city and so metaphoricallly far from local politics.

I used to want to a hell of a lot, my fiance is American and it looks like once things get sorted out we shall be living in Florida. I live in England and for the most part, I hate it here, and imo we're a sinking ship. If I wasn't going to be living in the US I would definately go somewhere else, Germany maybe, or a Scandinavian country.

I`ve been to the States on many occasions in the 70`s whilst onboard ship. There were some good places and not so good places - just like here in the U.K. - I loved New York and Times Square :-) I liked Miami :-) I liked Jacksonville etc......
I would like to go back for a holiday (New York) but I don`t think I`d like to reside there permanently.
I love England and all it`s faults :-)

I'm an American and I love living here.
That being said, I'd love to live out the rest of my days
in the Bahamas or Bermuda.

I lived there for 14 years and I dont want to go back.I see the society as greedy and superficial.Theres a lot of prejudice.I had a lot of successful times and fun too, but, lifes too short to spend it in the U.S.Prejudice is towards white people too.At first you think WOW, what a great country, but after a few years you srart to learn how the country really operates and its disturbing and disgusting. If we treated Americans like they treat us. They would send the marines over!!!Hah,hah!Sorry I dont have anything nicer to say ,but the truth is better, isn't it? If you must go abroad then go somewhere more civilised, stay in europe or go to Australia. Good luck.America is like a wolf in sheeps clothing. If you can lie ,have no heart,be bad for six days and then go to church and ask forgiveness, then the u.s. is for you.If you need any more specific advise then ask more.Bye,bye.

No
There are too many other people there that will not speak English, the crime rate, the gun culture, the drug problems.....
A lot of reasons but it just does not feel like home it was the exact opposite to Great Britain in many ways............Australia is the closets to feeling comfortable (same sense of humour) etc
