Assuming the parking lot is wide open ....
If it's hot, I might park under a tree to provide shade and keep the car cool. Then again, if the car is clean and it looks like a tree that's popular with birds, I might not.
If I think I could use the exercise, I'll leave open spaces and opt for a spot that makes me burn a few extra calories.
If there's a Mini Cooper in the lot, I might park next to it because a pair of Minis look even cooler than one. (Guess what kind of car I drive?)
Other than that, I park where I do because it's convenient in relation to where I'm headed.

Easy to get into and out of.
Own space.
Price of Car park.
Empty spaces.
