Just stick the PC133 memory in and fire the pc up. The majority of mobos will accept it but only as pc100 (this is the same if you mix and match 100/133 even if your mobo does accept pc133 - it will always run at the lowest speed.

In the past I have mixed sticks like you just to get some use out spare ones - although this generally is not a recommended option. If you have the luxury try and keep sticks the same speed.

If when you boot your pc up and it doesnt get past the POST screen (the black startup screen) - most will usually bleep away in this case then remove the stick and reboot. In this instance you wont be able to use your extra stick of RAM. However, if your lucky enough to get away with this, the bios should come up, just click on save and exit and away you go! Even if the mobo doesnt accept it, if your spare ram is considerably greater than the memory already in your pc have you thought about using your spare ram on its own?

PS I have found in my mixing experiences you will also suffer a side effect that means you will not always be able to use all the memory of the stick you put in, for example say you added a 128Mb pc133 stick and the mobo accepts it - it may not see the pc133 as a 128 it might think its a 64Mb or 100Mb stick (yeh I know you cant physically get a 100Mb stick but its what I have found in my past experience - the mobo cant read/incorrectly reads the total memory available) . Sadly theres nothing you can do about this, but hey at least you get some extra RAM, such is the annoyance of mixing ram speed!

Hope this helps.

The old system are not as adaptable as computers are as today.

Their are different types of modules is your pc 133 sdram too. Some memory modules are backward compatable and some are not. Read the article about memory modules and swapping at URL.

Certain motherboard chipsets, such as the Intel 810, will not accept pc133 ram by design. There's no way around this.

Your motherboard ought to down throttle the 133 stick to 100. You ought not to have to do anything.
