I am an over the road female truck driver and I am going to give you the directions I would take going that way. Leave Des Moines on Interstate 80 east. Go to Davenport and take Interstate 280 east around Davenport and get back on 80 east again. Continue on 80 east to Interstate 76 (PA Turnpike...toll road) in Ohio. Take 76 East to Philadelphia. It is about 1075 or so miles. Please go to mapquest.com and put in your starting location and ending location and print it out and take it with you. Stop at a truck stop and get you a truckers atlas. It is less than $10.00 and carry it with you. If I were you I would get me a small CB and an antenna. ANY TRUCK DRIVER will help if you need directions along the way. We all know the fuel stops and bathrooms and good places to eat and safe places to stop. BE CAREFUL...

Basically, you want to take interstate 80 to interstate 76. From there, it depends on where in Philly you want to go. Interstate 80 takes you through Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio (Ohio Turnpike). Interstate 76 is the Pennsylvania Turnpike. There are multiple exits for Philly from the PA Tpk. Just depends on what part of Philly you want. I generally use www.randmcnally.com when I need directions. If you're a member of AAA, their site is great, too. You could also request what's called a Triptik from Des Moines to Philly and they can mail it to you or you can pick it up at your local office.

Paganos Steaks and Hoagies. Their Cheese Steaks are fabulous and full of meat. They have two locations right off the corner of 10th and Girard Ave. right by the bridge. And one at 76th and ogontz ave. If you are not a native the easier one to find would be on Girard right across the street from the Dunkin donuts.
