I have yet to see the remake. I dont really care for them, but I have trouble picturing Martin as the great inspector. so I suppose I am looking for opinions either way before I spend money on this movie.
I guess what I am getting at is this: Is this similar to seeing some other actor play Capt. Kirk. I know it hasnt been done but what if....

I love Steve Martin, but he tried to redefine Clouseau in the movie. I found it distracting, not even close to Peter Sellers.

And as for Captain Kirk... Perfect comparison. It could not and should not ever be attempted.

I love the original Pink Panther films and Peter Sellers is superb.
I also like Steve Martin but have not watched him in Inspector Clouseau.
I think there are far to many old classic films being remade and don't understand why. Artistically and economically, Hollywood hasn't learnt that remaking classic movies for television or theatrical release never works. Not at the box office or in the ratings, nor does it enhance the reputation of actors and directors in comparisons with the legendary casts of the originals.
So I avoid watching and stick to the originals.

Hi,
My three kids thought Steve Martin was very funny, but they have never seen Peter Sellers play Inspector Clouseau.

It's worth a watch if you don't compare the two. There will never be another Peter Sellers. But the movie still entertained me.

Anytime an actor "owns" a character the way Sellers did Clouseau, you're asking for trouble doing a remake.

I was more offended with Eddie Murphy's remakes of Dr. DoLittle and Nutty Professor. Calling movies with that kind of toilet humor family films is beyond me.

Martin was okay, film was so-so. If you're curious, watch it once. Best to stick to the original.

I think Steve Martin is a brilliant comedy actor, but remake The Pink Panter? Not even he could pull it off. I didn't find him insulting as such, just a little embarressing for him! However if you were a fan of the originals it is worth watching the remake, because in my opinion you can not really have an opinion on something if you've never experienced it!

I have never seen it and it never showed in theaters or on cable (On Demand or PPV) that I am aware of anyhow. I get Steve Martin's comedy though you can overdose on it because he basically is doing one routine. He did a movie called Shop Girl and it was not really to bad either but it died and bombed out of theaters quickly, went to DVD and was on cable for awhile. I would love to see his inspector Clouseau but its no where to be found.

I was not offended by Steve Martin's performance. He tried, it didn't work, but he tried.

I was not offended by Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka, but regarded the remake as a dismal failure next to Gene Wilder's original.

Some flicks are so classic that a remake will never work.

Thought he over did it. Peter Sellers made it look natural. Steve Martin made it look forced.

Steve martin is rubbish at everything he does. God only knows how he became famous in the first place.
He totally ruined Clouseau in every respect.
