Sometimes I will call a friend with small children and all of a sudden, in the middle of our conversation, they put their kid on the phone to talk with me.

I HATE that. I am the only one of group that doesnt have kids. I love their kids, but I really have nothing to say to a 4 year old on the phone. Generally, I just want to know if they are gonna be home and if I should buy beer. Geez, is that too much to ask?

to interrupt in the middle of the conversation is definitely rude, (however, the kid might be grabbing the phone) which the parent should stop such behavior immediately. Another reason for the parent allowing this, is likely to placate the child so that they can continue to talk with you on the phone. Either way, it's not the proper way to handle the situation. The child needs to be taught to wait, and to respect "no"....also, you should be asked if you would like to say "hi".......

Which is why I have no friends with Kids...

But when its happened? I just wanna strangle the parent.. I didnt call to talk to some kid... If i wanted to talk to the kid i would have called the kid and asked to talk to them...

Adults can be such idiots sometimes..

I just hang up..

Perhaps they want their kids to understand what the phone is for, how it can be used to talk to someone a long way away. (We adults take that for granted.) Perhaps you could say "It might help if you tell me when your kid's going to speak to me".

its kinda rude---just ask them nicely to not put their kids on with you especially in the middle of a conversation----

i find it mildly irritating, the kid has no idea how to talk back and you're just sitting there on the other end looking like an idiot.

I just go ahead and tell the kids that Santa is not real and that their Mommy and Daddy are liars.

it's cute if the kid just wants to say hi to you or something, but that's just kinda wierd if it's just randomly and happens a lot..
