Who is "The Stig" on Top Gear? Also who saw Hammonds crash, horrific wasn't it!?

I think Richard Hammond is a bit of a hottie actually! The crash was a bit nasty but it's nice to see that he has recovered enough to be able to laugh about it!!

There have been two Stigs. The first who dressed all in black, from series 1 and 2 of the current Top Gear format was Perry McCarthy, a professional racing driver who is described as the unluckiest man ever to get into an F1 car - google him for more details. Once his identity was revealed by the daily Telegraph he was "killed off" in a stunt that supposedly went wrong when he drove a Jag XJS off the end of HMS Invincible (in fact they fired the car off with a compressed nitrogen cannon) and replaced with the new Stig who wears all white. Current favourites are former F1 driver Julian Bailey, but it is more likely to be another racing driver, Ben Collins http://www.bencollinsracing.com/... as he has featured as himself in several editions of the show, such as the on with the Evo 8 racing the downhill off-road skateboarder - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huyjr632f... - however these are just popular theories and noone knows who the new Stig is for certain apart from those who work on the show.

And yes, the hamster's crash was epic/horrific/scary and many other adectives. Sooo glad he's OK.

I saw Hamster's crash. He was tempting fate saying he was going to have a big accident. He should never have gone for that last run, but he looks good now, considering the injuries he suffered. I don't know who the Stig is, but there are a few answers up here.

Apparently it was Perry McCarthy. But everytime it gets out who the stig is then the stig is changed.

Hamsters crash was awful, its nice to see him back - it definately would not be the same without ALL three of them arguing over cars.

How did he manage to get out of that alive? Wasn't it weird on the first trial run that he said could be a major crash!!!!! SPOOKY!!!

Who is Stig has been asked previously and lots saying no-one knows - however one answer said that it's Damon Hill which was let slip by producers or someone? (can't remember who's id it was but I voted it best answer anyway!)

Me too. I was abroad on holiday when it happened and I was scared to look at any british newspapers incase they reported that he had died. I don't think he is 100% back to his old self as he was a little bit quiet spoken compared to before it happened, but well it's understandable.

I am afraid the indentity of The Stig will remain a mystery for ever.
