I babysit a 2 month old. Mom and dad have been trying to ween the baby off of the breast and onto the bottle. They have tried all different types of bottles. Nothing is working. Any suggestions?

Best thing you can do for them is to feed the baby by bottle... sounds pretty strait forward doesn't it. Baby is used to getting fed from mommy, when trying to wean it's best to get a 3rd party involved in the feeds. He'll eventually learn that he gets boobie from mommy and bottle from and eventually will learn to feed from both. Once he's used to the bottle most babies wean themselves from the breast.

Try the Evian bottles, the are shaped more like a real breast. Also try to feed with breast milk in bottle then move to formula...and have lots and lots of patience. Good Luck

sometimes it just doesnt work. the baby doesnt like the taste of formula or the bottle nipple isn't like mom's. i recommend the avent bottles. and the playtex disposable bottles. the nipples are long and soft. i did however have a baby that refused to ween and i just breastfed her for her first year. when she turned one she was already use to drinking juice in a cup. so weening her was a breeze.

Most babys are opposite. The only thing they could do is add things to her diet that the baby may not like. If she has had bad experience with a specific food, then have her eat that. My kids didn't like spicy foods. It all takes time, her baby will not like the feeling of not being held as often. They like the bonding feeling.

Maybe try putting a tiny tiny bit of honey on the the botte nipple and tiny tiny bit of lemon juice on the breast nipple. Or even having the mom place the nipple of the bottle over her own a few times just the nipple and then holding a bottle real close to her breast so the baby latches on to the bottle nipple instead of hers. Might work . I never breast fed so I really dont know.

Don't do "ifyouonlyknew"'s suggestion of honey! Honey and Syrup can be very dangerous for a child less than a year old.

You are gonna have to keep trying different ones. But try them more than once or twice so you can let her try to get used to it.

Have them consult a lactation consultant through the hospital.
