D) cyanobacteria, not plants. There is no doubt about it. Cyanobacteria made it possible for plants even to exist, and preceeded them by a long time.

I would say Plants.

It's true that some bacteria started to pour oxygen in the atmosphere, but the real 'revolution' started with plants.
