Lately, I've been examining a disturbing pattern taking flight; I'm curious if no one else has noticed. No offense, of course, but it seems that white America has taken to adopting black males as the latest accessory, the new handbag, or the latest Prada, perhaps. While I possess no abundance in years, I can remember not a long while ago, the "idea" of interracial coupling was considered an "issue" on after school specials. Now, suddenly, black males are the friendly new Ken?? Not to paint this as problematic, personally, I enjoy that society has taken such a leap, but under what basis? Simply because black males are "interesting" and "exotic," or white women "fun" and "different" or because boundaries are actually being transcended and progress actually being made? In which case, what role do black women play in this new trend? (Please be mindful not to clump African American females and biracial females into the same racial category as there is a difference) What is your perspective?

I Worried this might be viewed in the smallest and worse perspective. I'm not meaning to imply degradation of Black men, nor to suggest --as I thought I had made clear-- that interracial coupling is problematic! My question was geared toward galvanizing an open discussion on an issue that keeps getting washed over, much like it's being now. Bottom line: RACE EXISTS! Plain and simple, I want a rainbow world more than anyone, but there can never be such a place if people continue to deny that colors exists. Bringing up race shouldn't evoke anger, why shouldn't I discuss it, after all -- I AM black. What's wrong with acknowledging it, embracing it, and being curious about how others think about it. I didn't post my question to resurrect civil rights movements, I posted because I thought I might be able to maturely discuss an important, albeit uncomfortable, topic with intellectuals who might be able to broaden my curious perspective. My Bad.

As all great things must, this forum has reached its end. I appreciate all of your enlightening perspectives. Many thanks to those who remained open-minded.
I posed this question for the sake of curiosity, nothing more. I apologize if it appeared subversive, it was never meant to create offense; yet somehow, it's always the tough questions that hit a nerve. I expected as much even, before submitting a single word. Although, as Einstein reminds us, it is important to never cease asking questions.
To Dash Rip: Funny you should ask. These days, brevity just isn't my style. Someone once told me to "Say what you mean and mean what you say, or say nothing at all." While conciseness is dandy, realize that to shorten what you feel requires either leaving out essential parts and sounding too "vague." Or condensing your thoughts and risk sounding too "bombastic." If this forum has taught me anything, it is that criticism is inevitable. One cannot have opinions without enemies.

To Sortega: Of all my replies, I reflected on your perspective the most. I agree that perhaps my tone may have been a bit misleading. Please understand, I wasn't implying that interracial relationships are bad. Ironically enough, I was raised in an interracial home. I'm not trying to perpetuate a reverse Archie Bunker perspective. I assumed it was clear that I wasn't asking if anyone AGREED with interracial dating, I was asking if anyone NOTICED a pattern and if they had any thoughts on said pattern. I'm sorry you misunderstood. My apologies if I seemed offensive. I would have replied the same way if I thought that someone were trying to spread racist ideas.

You say this phenomenon is not problematic, but yet in your very first sentence you say it is a "disturbing pattern taking flight."
This hardly has positive connotations.
So long has this issue been taboo for people in love, for some time it was illegal to marry outside your race. And even after it was legal, societal pressure was so great that people wouldn't dare. I think people now feel more comfortable to have a relationship outside their own race, though such relationships are not always looked upon well, even today. If we(any race) have a physical attraction to someone that is based on race, wouldn't we simply just have a sexual relationship and progress no further? Many of these people marry or have long term relationships together. Which suggests to me that perhaps these people have common interests, goals, or just like each others company. As for the role of black women, I see just as many of them looking for white guys as I have met women who somehow feel offended by white female/black male relationships. It doesn't offend or bother me when a black woman finds a white man to love. I don't wonder "why," I'm simply glad they both have found someone and have the blessing to know love. I feel that although you say you like this society, your words portray some hesitancy.

i cant imagine a living thing to be a handbag but hey, as long they store perfume, i love them!

lol, im sry im not rly stupid but laughs are important.
Alrighty, i think I get what your saying, its a little annoying when I see white people act as if black women are not beautiful which I have seen again and again on yahoo answers but never in real life. Its quite insane i know, but Ive seen black women dating all kinds of men and of course they have an impact! oprah, condolezza rice, many others inspire everybody! you know i think racists have a severe eyesight problem and they need glasses because they see every beautiful minority woman as a stereotypical ugly mammy or something.

My perspective is why can we all as humans stop making a racial thing out of most things. who cares if they are using mixed couples. So i don't get the point what is it. So what is the point of what role will blk women play. The whole point is ppl need to stop making race a back ground for everything.

It is called "white guilt". blk "leaders" like jesse jackson and mlk have done all they could to portray blks as helpless innocent victims of the "evil white man who be the devil", taking advantage of the White's compassionate nature in order to gain as many programs (welfare, housing) and cash.
But this trend/fad you think you are seeing exists only in TV/movies/magazines. Media companies have been "guilted" into placing blks into roles that are so preposterous that it's become cliche. look at TV commercials for example, blks are about 49% of all actors in commercials, even though mexicans are a larger % of the population than blks, and have more money than blks, and Asians, who are less, population wise, have much more money than blks.
As for what role blk women play, they sit back and watch, even though they make more money than blk men, they are left out in the cold, watching their men chase after overweight white women with cars and credit cards, taking care of all the babies these same men have left with them.
you need to stop watching all the blk doctors and business men on TV and start living in the real world.

as for "While I possess no abundance in years,"
sounds like somebody is trying to pass

the only reason white women (or coalburners) f*ck black men is so they can get back at daddy for not buying them that pony when they turned sweet 16.

they deserve any and all bullsh!t they get, including the inevitable beatings, cheating and abandonment when they get pregnant or gain too much weight, or just when the spade gets bored with them.

Disturbing and disgusting but glamorized by the liberal media.

BTW, have you ever heard of brevity?

Its being promoted on the liberal media to an undo extent. There is also an urban legend going around that black men's penises are larger. Entirely untrue. The truth is on average black men's penises are longer, but white men's penises are thicker
