Because people are basically concrete thinkers. In other words, if they can't see it, touch it, hear it or taste it, it just doesn't exist as far as they are concerned. The concept of God is very abstract and spiritual. Thus, those that don't believe in him because they don't have concrete evidence of him, think it's all a big myth or fairy tale. Those people, however, have the strangest idea that they just "happened" to be here, without the benefit of divine intervention. They are due for the biggest shocking revelation of their concrete lives.
