My Son had an RTA recently in his car. He is an apprentice technician at a bus depot and the bosses want him to take a course to gain his PSV licence. He has told them about the RTA and his worries about his car licence. In the UK, doe the loss of his car licence stop him from holding a PSV?

If the rta was his fault and his liceance is taken away due to him being disqualified then he will not be able to take his psv. The psv test is an extension to your original drivers liceance. They add the psv on as another catagory you are qualified for. If he goes to court and pleads that he req liceance for his job he may get the points but not a disqualification. He will need a solicitor to take this on for hom. My son had 9 points and then got 3 more for speeding. 12 points is a disqualification automatically. We had a solicitor and pleaded that he req to drive not only for his job but that he has to drive his grandmother to church and pay for his brothers education in Jamaica. You can only plead this once. Happy to say he now has no points.

Hiya, I work on the buses (for Metro) and I'm nearly sure that it does. He can still get the psv licence but if he loses his car licence they wouldn't let him drive a bus until he got it back, but the fact that he'd lost his licence wouldn't stop them from employing him as a driver.

Well to gain a psv license you have to have a full clean driving licence,so in the end you need both.

If you mean 'lost' as in misplaced, he will need to pay to obtain a replacement licence before he can start his PSV/PCV course.

If you mean 'lost' as in losing his entitlement to drive (licence revoked) on medical or legal grounds, he cannot drive ANY motor vehicle on a public road until he regains his licence.

i am afraid yes, part of the conditions require you to hold a valid car licence for more than 3 years and over 21,under 21 to drive the smaller buses of 29 seats.so if he has lost his licence through the courts then he will to wait for the licence to be re instated and then dvla will have to agree to pcv being granted.

what do you mean by 'loss'? If he had been banned from driving, then that is a total ban from ALL vehicles. If it's simply lost, he just needs to send off for a replacement.
