I'm going to buy my little sister (who's 16) a scooter for her birthday. Who are reputable retailers? How much should I expect to pay for one that's cheap but still safe? How much will insurance be? Help!!

(I'm in the UK)

look in auto trader, quids in or loot and looking about £600- £700 used, baring in mind you can buy a brand new scooter for £1500.

insurance is very cheap, as is tax.

she also need to pass a cbt test which cost £90.00 which lasts for one day and will automatically pass.

you can get 100mile, maybe more depending on scooter which will cost £3.75 to fill up. they are very cheap to have

I like the Kymco "People 50" with the larger wheels, rather than the small "donut" tires. I am in US though, I assume they;d be sold there, nice features and good price, over here anyways. Looks like it would handle better too. If she rides bicycle alot now, I assume she could handle a moped OK, as long as she watches out for other traffic well. Make sure she gets a helmet and a bright jacket to wear and I'd avoid riding it at night.

i bought a suzuki ap 50 4 1500 hundred and it came with insurance which would of been 500 tax 15 helmet 50 and then you have to pay 4 cbt which is about 90 . but they are a great idea and i would have been lost without mine plus it gives you great experience of the road before you learn to drive

If you want to have a little sister in one years time I urge you NOT to buy her a scooter.

She'll need to pass her CBT before being able to ride it.
