The only time when diapers are really important about fitting a baby is directly after the baby is born. I would go with Pampers newborns, because they have a little notch for the umbilical cord and they fit very well. You don't want to get meconium all over everything because the first poop is very messy and icky. You can also use extra virgin olive oil on the baby's bottom to make clean up easy...especially for the first poop. I always used Huggies directly after the baby was bigger....less wash to do because there are less blow-outs that the baby has.

They suck...trust me. It is tough when you are on a budget, but I would suggest keeping an eye out for coupons and just spend the extra couple dollars...it will be worth it. A newborn has sensitive skin and those cheap diapers aren't very soft....They will be better when your baby is older. Also, newborn poop is so liquidy...those cheap ones don't hold as much or as well.
I like Pampers Swaddlers for a newborn. My last daughter was tiny and they make the smallest ones I have seen. Huggies are good too. She is now 3 weeks old and the Pampers newborn diapers still fit well, but the Huggies newborn ones are a little bit bigger and it will still be a few weeks before she will fit into the size one diapers.
Also....keep an eye out for sales. A good sale and a coupon can make the cost almost as cheap as the wal mart brand.
Go to the Huggies and Pampers websites and sign up for special offers.
Most newborns wear newborn size diapers for a week or two but then go right into the size ones. Get a pack or two of the newborns, and stock up on size one and two. What we did was just buy a pack a week for the last 4 months of my pregnancy and now we are set for a while. Also, if you have a baby shower...put diapers on your registry or request them as gifts.
Good luck and Congrats!

I personally have stocked up on both Huggies and Pampers for my son. I have found that if you get coupons (sign up on both their websites and look in the Sunday papers) and watch for sales you can usually get the name brand diapers for the same price as the cheap ones. The only cheap brand I have bought are the White Cloud and they work well, but I like the Huggies and Pampers the best because they are thinner. Also Huggies have more stretch and Pampers tend to run just a hair bigger than the Huggies.

Pampers swaddlers are the best because they have a mesh lining that lets the poop go through so it is not touching baby's bottom, you can sign up for coupons on pampers website, and alot of times the diapers come with a coupon in them to use on your next purchase. Also, at the hospital get as many diapers as you can, we came home with probably about 150. We also use nivea cream lotion on baby's butt to prevent diaper rash, and it has not failed us since we started using it, five months ago. Also, something that no one told us, if you have a boy the penis has to point down or else the pee WILL leak out of the diaper.

In my experience all diapers are either luvs or huggies. I'm talking really about the way they fit. Huggies tend to be longer and thinner, luvs are shorter and fatter. The generic version of luvs is parent's choice, which is the one you're talking about, and white cloud is more a generic huggies. I use white cloud personally, because they fit my baby better. In the hospital they'll probably give you a few diapers (they gave me huggies, and they were wonderful), and I found when I took my daughter home that they were the only ones that fit her yet (she was 6p132oz). White cloud are actually the absolute cheapest, and better than the parent's choice that are the next price up.

It really depends on what you like and what your baby likes. I use Huggies, and even though they are on the more expensive side
I found I used less in a day (needed to change her less often)then the Walmart brand and so per diaper the Huggies were not that much more. And my daughter constantly had red marks on her legs and stomach ( a bit of a reaction) to Pampers.
Buy the small packs and find one that your, your baby and wallet all can agree on.

I used only luvs and pampers because all the other brands broke my daughter's bottom out. No not daper rash, it was an allergic reaction to the type of chemicals used for that "lockaway liquid core" that keeps diapers dryer. It is the same stuff used in some sanitary napkins...I had a hard time finding those things that didn't give me an allergic reaction.

I am due in march and just bought some diapers not to long ago and I bought huggies. I have heard so many good things about them and they were always the most recommended when I would ask around. They are a little more expensive but I used coupons and waited until they were on sale and they came out to be almost the same price as the generic brands.

i use huggies...but i think Luvs are a cheaper great alternative, sometimes the really cheap ones leak....and white cloud gave my babies diaper rash...so you may have to try different brands.
I wanted to add that if anyone asks what to get baby tell them diapers from walmart....the great thing is if you get to many of one size and baby outgrows them you can bring them back without a receipt and exchange them for the next size up...so start buying now.

You get what you pay for, if you buy cheap, you will have to change them more often. I made the mistake of buying target brand diapers once, the velcro didnt stick well, they filled up fast and puffed up, and they were rough. Luvs are also cheap but I wouldnt recommend them. Huggies and Pampers are the best. Look for coupons and go to both companies websites and sign up for thier couson programs.
