Actually, you lose power when you believe in things you don't understand. That said, "wizards" don't worship the bad guy. Satanists do. Wizards embrace forgotten lore. See, e.g,. Gandalf.

I could tell you a lot of things about sorcery.

For now, just be happy being you. The decision to become a wizard, witch, sorceror, magician, Magus, whatever you wanna call it..... It isn't an easy one, and it takes YEARS of study just to get started. It's a calling that few people dare to answer. I commend you for your curiousity, your honesty, your courage, your eagerness to learn. You're 11 years old and grown adults fear to go where you are willing to tread. But the time isn't right for you.

There is SO much out there for you to discover..... Please don't limit yourself by making such concrete and permanent choices now....

When the time is right, when you are ready, and you still want to learn, I'll still be here.

Your ability with magic will be determined solely by how much time and effort you put into the pursuit. As to what abilities you might have, you have to explore them yourself. Adepts of wizardry tend to have varying strengths and weaknesses, and as such you may find you have a strong ability for one area and little in another.
Work hard and you will find out what you are capable of.
I'd suggest a book by Oberon Zell-Ravenheart called Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard.

You are only a year older than my son, who has been practicing magic his whole life. We are of the Wicca religion and people of my religion usually practice magic and teach their children how to practice it also. Please understand that real magic is very different from the Harry Potter magic you may have read about or pretend stage magic. Since it appears that you do not belong to a family of magic users, I would caution you to please wait until you are an adult before trying to learn magic on your own. I know that the idea of practicing real magic probably sounds very exciting and fun, but it can be very dangerous if you are a child trying to learn it without adult supervision. Even in the Harry Potter Universe, children have to wait until they are seventeen before they are allowed to practice magic away from school. We also don't allow our children to practice magic that is above their ability to understand and control, and we make sure that they learn it from easiest to hardest. Since you are asking this question on Yahoo! Answers, it is obvious you don't have an adult to lead you slowly down the magical path and to supervise and correct you when you make mistakes. I don't think there is anything wrong with reading everything you want to on the the subject of real magic, but for your own safety, please wait until you are an adult before you actually try to perform it.

Oh, one more thing. People of my religion do not worship "that bad guy", most of us don't even believe he exists. We believe it is o.k. to use magic as long as you don't hurt anybody with it, including yourself.

The only power you need is the Power of Belief. If you don't believe in yourself, you'll never go anywhere.

Wizards were guys in the old days that were masters of magic tricks and hypnosis. They got their power through creating fear and confusion in the minds of the common superstitious people of the time. That is alot of power.

Before anything else, move out of your parents basement, and try to grow some hair on your unused shriveled testes.
