3 days ago i purchases 2 mystery snails. they were quite active the first evening after getting used to their new tank, but since that 1st night have refused to come out of their shells. one is floating along the top w/ a white mucus-y sustance coming out, and the second is sitting on the bottom (hasn't moved). i've had snails before (altho not mysterys); and i know they're not dead. what's the deal, though?

Sounds to me like at least the one floating on top is dead. If you pick the snail up the trap door should shut firmly. If not, it is probably not alive.

I too had bought 2 mystery snails with no luck. They were ok for the first day then nothing. I have talked to the pet store and searched online and I can not find anything. The only thing I found was that there may be too much copper in the water. But for my case that was not the answer.

If they were dead they would smell horrible if you took them out of the water. If they are alive, they may be sick, or just more active at night. Do you have a lot of algae for them. They eat tons of algae, so they usually starve to death if they have to compete for food with a plecostomous or other algae eater.
