Two people work together dont know each other previous to this, only difference is one is a manager and one is an employee, work in a department. Both females, straight, in fact the manager has a husband and kids.
They became close friends, they started meeting up and going for lunch, going out for drinks etc... Talking late to each other on the phone etc...about nothing much just catching up with whats going on in each other lives. When someone asked what they were talking about they both would say nothing really. Both Families dont understand what and why they meet up.People at work started rumours no-one would be brave enough to ask them why they go for lunch etc.
Oh yeah by the way the employee is 18 and the boss is 18 years older.
What i would like to know is what is your opinion on this?
Do you think they are being mis-judged or not.

Thanks Giraffe x

I think that they are a pair of witches who are planning to take over the world and rid us all of Kellogg's breakfast cereal products!

Why is everybody assuming that because there is this 18 year age gap and the people are of the same sex that something sinister must be going on? If the manager was sleeping in the same bed as the employee and going home to her every night and not her family then you should all be worried.

For crying out loud, EXPAND YOUR MINDS!!! The people at work who are starting rumours are a bunch of fools too. I myself am 23 years old and am a manager in a high-profile company in central London; my 'staff' range from the ages of 18 to 72 and we all more or less go our after work and speak on the phone and take lunch together. Oh, the eldest is like 49 years my senior - just because she socialises with me and we enjoy each others company DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE AT IT OVER THE PHOTOCOPIER!!!

Leave these ladies alone - they are friends who enjoy each others company and everyone is just jealous and stupid.

Giraffe it is only natural that people will talk if they are spending extended periods of time together. Perhaps the younger employee (which I am guessing is the female in the relationship) is sending out the wrong signals to this much older man and he has his imagination going full time. Reality is that he is old enough to be her father but neither are looking at this fact. As well if they are spending a lot of time on the phone talking about things that are not work related this is not a good sign either. It would certainly appear to this old man anyway that there is an attraction to one and other, whether it is real or imagined. The older male in this scene seems to be being unfaithful to his wife as he is chatting with another woman whom she would not approve of these conversations. Best outcome for these two people is to have an honest talk and say that things have or are appearing to be getting out of hand and that they need to be put back on track and that their relationship should be on a professional basis only.

I think they are just mates. Don't worry about it. The boss is maybe being a surrogate mum or maybe the younger one reminds her of a daughter or something or maybe she reminds her of herself when she was that age. We women don't pay any heed to what is "acceptable to other people" if we want to be friends we shall be! In fact one of my closest friends I met through taking our respective children, both aged 8,to and from school but I am 18 years older than her and have a daughter who is only 5 years younger than her. Nobody has ever thought our friendship odd in any way or even commented upon it.

Why does it have anything to do with anyone else? Perhaps they just get on well. maybe one is mother figure to the other. Don't get involved in office gossip and walk away when it stasrts. Who someone has as a friend and the reassons for it are nothing to do with anyone else. I assume the gossips do have lives of their own and do get out sometimes?
