Simplifying
(1 + 5i)(6 + -3i)

Multiply (1 + 5i) * (6 + -3i)
(1(6 + -3i) + 5i * (6 + -3i))
((6 * 1 + -3i * 1) + 5i * (6 + -3i))
((6 + -3i) + 5i * (6 + -3i))
(6 + -3i + (6 * 5i + -3i * 5i))
(6 + -3i + (30i + -15i^2))

Combine like terms: -3i + 30i = 27i
(6 + 27i + -15i^2)

(1+5i)(6-3i)....

First: use the foiling method....

[(1)(6) + (1)(-3i)] + [(5i)(6) + (5i)(-3i)]

[6 - 3i] + [30i - 15i^2]

6 - 3i + 30i - 15i^2

Sec: combine "like" terms...

6 + 27i - 15i^2

Third: the "i^2" becomes "-1"...

6 + 27i - 15(-1)

6 + 27i - (-15)

6 + 27i + 15

= 21 + 27i
