Well, if by 146 years ago, you would mean as of January 28, 1861, there was no CSA (Confederate States of America). It was formed on February 4, 1861. Six states (South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana had seceded, but had not yet formed a central government. Texas seceded on February 1, and these seven states formed the CSA. Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee and North Carolina joined by May 20. Late in 1861, "rump" state governments were formed in Missouri and Kentucky, but these states were never controlled by the Confederacy. The "legitimate" state governments of these two states remained loyal to the union, but it brought a total of thirteen states to be represented on the rebel Stars and Bars flag.

The Confederate States Army (CSA) was formed in February 1861 to defend the Confederate States of America, which had itself been formed that same year when seven Southern states seceded from the United States.
